About Us

HISTORY

Crossgates village in Fife has a long history of mining, both deep and opencast.  The bowling club was originally established as Crossgates Miners Welfare Bowling Club (CMWBC) at premises in Curling Park.

We moved to our current premises in 1940 and are located at the rear of the original Miners Welfare Institute, now the local Community Centre, on Inverkeithing Road in Crossgates.

Our membership dropped for a few years until our revival in 2008 and we are once again a friendly welcoming club with a growing membership.

LOCATION

CLUB CONSTITUTION & BYE-LAWS

The club is run and governed in accordance with the official Crossgates Bowling Club Constitution.

Our club competitions should be played in accordance with latest edition of the World Bowls Laws of the Sport.

PLAYING BOWLS

At Crossgates Bowling Club we like to think we have something for everyone - from those who are interested in playing socially only or keeping active as a hobby, to those wishing to compete at Inter-club, District or Scottish National competitive level.

If you would like to try a sport which is open to all ages and abilities and is both friendly and competitive, then why not have a go at bowling?

If you are no longer able to participate in more energetic sports or you are an existing bowler looking for a new club to join, then we would love to hear from you. No previous bowling experience is required and we have fully qualified coaches who can provide tuition if required.

Prospective members are welcome to come along any time to try it out.  Please get in touch with our President Alan Walker on 07745 612732 if you would like to give it a go.

Booking a rink

There is no online booking system for our playing members.  There are usually rinks available for play however if you wish to secure a rink for playing a tie, please call or message Alan Walker on 07745 612732.

The rink rotation marker in the clubhouse must always be used to select a rink.  Please take the rink marker from the left hand side and move to the right – this is the rink to play on.

Mats and jacks are located inside the clubhouse. Please return after use.

Hats

A mixed hat is held every Tuesday evening at 6.30pm - all playing members welcome.

Individual results are added to a league table and a trophy awarded to the overall season hat winners at the annual Prizegiving presentation evening in November.

Try Bowls Club

Crossgates BC is proud to be affiliated with Try Bowls which is Bowl's Scotland's national campaign aimed at getting new people into bowls.

The club has also achieved their Bronze BowlsMark award status.

We hold several Open Days/Come & Try Bowls events to which everyone is welcome to come along and give lawn bowls a go.

Saturday 10th May from 1-4pm is our next event.

However if you would like to try bowls and cannot make any of our specific events then please get in touch with our Secretary who will be only too happy to help get you on the green.
